JBL On Stage Micro Portable iPod Speaker and Docking Station (Red) Review

JBL On Stage Micro Portable iPod Speaker and Docking Station (Red)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the JBL ON Stage Micro in red for my office. It has AMAZING sound for such a tiny unit! I have the Bose Sounddock for my iPod at home and I gotta say...this little speaker sounds like Bose's little sister! I got it on sale at my local Best Buy for $59 because, I guess, they were closing out the red one....the other colors were on sale too, but the red was the cheapest and I liked it best anyway. You will NOT be disappointed in this speaker. It comes w/ an adaptor for every iPod imaginable. I have a 30 G video and it fits nice and snug in the adapter when it is docked in the On Stage Micro. The sound is rich, clear and deep. It takes up very little space, as it's footprint is about the size of a small teacup saucer. Bonus: besides all the adapter inserts, this unit also has a cloth zippered carrying pouch that holds the speaker, cord, remote....w/ enough room for your iPod too! Oh, and the remote is great....finally, one I can control the iPod's menu with! Can scroll thru songs and everything.

iSound Foldable 4X Glow Portable Speakers for iPod and MP3 Players Review

iSound Foldable 4X Glow Portable Speakers for iPod and MP3 Players
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had been looking for a inexpensive yet decent MP3 dock that took various types of MP3 players, not just iPod. I didn't want to spend a whole lot because it was most likely going to get dropped. When I found this DreamGear iSound I was skeptical of the quality because it was so cheap- but I went ahead and ordered it anyway and hoped for the best. When it arrived (two days early!) I opened it up to test it out.
It came with:
A power cable to plug it into the wall. (it is also battery powered)
Several inserts that fit all the various iPod sizes. (one actually fit my Sansa MP3 player!)
An AUX cable to plug in those non-iPOD MP3 players and a *remote control!
It has a charging bay that charges iPODs as you play them but this does not work for my Sansa.
*You have to have the MP3 player plugged into the charging bay in order to use the remote on it.
(I can't plug my Sansa in so I cannot use the remote- that's the only reason I rate this 4 stars and not 5)
The sound quality is surprisingly fantastic and it's loud! I can easily hear it over most other sounds or at night I can turn it down and listen to it before bed without disturbing anyone. It doesn't have a heavy bass but it plays most songs perfectly.
!! If you have a CD player or anything with a headphone jack you can plug this in to it!
(you might need a longer AUX cable which you can buy anywhere!) !!
I think my favorite feature on this thing are the lights. The circles around the speakers light up a deep blue that actually matches my Sansa MP3 exactly. There is even a separate option to turn the lights off.All in all if you are looking for a cheap, good, portable MP3 dock buy this!
Trust me, it's the best one I could find for under $100 dollars that could play my Sansa the way I like.
I only wish I would have bought the Black instead of the White.
It would have looked like my MP3 was made for it!

iHome iHM9 Portable Stereo System for iPod, iPhone, and MP3 Players (Black) Review

iHome iHM9 Portable Stereo System for iPod, iPhone, and MP3 Players (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've spent a lot of time and some money looking for a suitable speaker set for my Ipod Touch. I like to view movies while laying in bed and this is perfect. No power cords to get in the way, sound is good for my purposes. There is a little ledge to rest the Ipod on, and it allows me to view in landscape mode. All the docking speakers force me to remove the case and most of them force portrait mode position. This is perfect as I don't want to struggle with the case or viewing position. It's a great value for my uses.
Pros:
Landscape mode viewing
Sound is good
Don't have to remove case from ipod
Inexpensive
No power cord so very portable
Cons:
Doesn't charge Ipod
Battery powered (4 AAs)

JBL OnTour Portable Music Box Review

JBL OnTour Portable Music Box
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Impressive sound compared to other portables. I have a set of Wharfedale Loudman's used for 2 years. They're good value for the $40 I paid, but the "On Tour" has much more "depth" The sound is pure, rich, "on" I've listened to some of the more expensive portable alternatives and didn't think they beat the LoudMan's so didn't buy. Took a chance on these based on a review and the brand name. Doesn't have boom box volume, won't blow you out of the room, but there's plenty of volume without setting on max. And even on max setting, there's no sense that you're on the edge of distortion.
They're heavier than I expected, just less than 14 oz, exceptionally well made, sized more like a hip flask than the 'glasses' case described in one review. This isn't for your pocket, but OK for a brief case or tucked in the corner of a suitcase. I use mine in small group meetings and on travel.
The folks who designed this created a winner.

Share your music while on the road with the Harman JBL on Tour portable speaker system, which features an integrated protective cover that slides open to reveal a pair of full-range speakers. The slightly curved chassis measures 7 by 1.4 by 3.5 inches (W x H x D) when closed. When open, the cover shifts focus to serve as a stand, pointing the speakers upward to produce optimal sound on a flat surface. The system is compatible with most portable audio players thanks to its stereo mini-jack connection, which hooks up to such devices as the iPod, iPod mini, and a variety of other MP3 players, CD players, desktop computers, and laptops. The JBL on Tour is also easy to control, with a touch volume pad that both manages the volume and mutes the sound when desired. The speakers also remember the previous volume setting once the system shuts down.
Unlike many portable speaker systems, the JBL on Tour prides itself on its steady bass and clear, accurate audio. The device employs Harman's digital amplifier technology and Odyssey aluminum-domed transducers to deliver a full, rich frequency response that extends from low bass notes to high-end tones. In addition, the system uses computer-optimized equalization to improve the soundstage and an advanced energy management system that keeps the unit from wasting battery power during use. Additional features include gripping rubber feet below the speakers, an audio input cable, and a universal AC adapter. When used as a portable system, the JBL on Tour provides more than 24 hours of continuous play on four AAA batteries. The device also includes a low battery alert.

JBL On Stage Micro Portable Ipod Speaker and Docking Station (Fuchsia) Review

JBL On Stage Micro Portable Ipod Speaker and Docking Station (Fuchsia)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought this in June, and this little portable speaker packs a wallop sound-wise. It's small, but the sound is deceptively loud and crystal clear (just when I think that I've got it turned down to a reasonable level, the phone rings or my husband asks me a question and I discover that it is louder than I thought!).
I wanted to be able to play my iPod in other rooms of the house without headphones and this tiny, sleek thing is perfect for my already crowded kitchen, and is so small and light, it's no trouble to unplug and carry around to other areas (although the sound covers an entire floor of our townhouse with no trouble, so I rarely have to move it). The adaptors for the various iPod sizes really don't seem to be necessary. My Nano 2nd gen. fits right in there just fine, and so does my husband's full-size iPod. The adaptor might provide a little more support or stability for my Nano, but as I say, doesn't really seem to be necessary.
The remote is tiny, a little cheap-feeling, and it has buttons labeled with not-quite-intuitive symbols rather than the touch system that the ipod itself has, so I have to sort of think about what I'm doing when I use it. Based on reviews, I'm expecting that the remove will probably be the first thing to go.
It's also a bonus that it charges the iPod while playing.
Overall, I think this is a nifty little device and I'm very pleased with my purchase.

It's not much bigger than an iPod universal dock, it's powered by either AC outlets or four AAA batteries, and it delivers legendary JBL audio performance. In short, the fuchsia-colored JBL On Stage Micro is the ideal iPod speaker system for listeners who want to integrate small size with big sound. As a standalone iPod music system, the On Stage Micro offers a Class D digital amplifier and a pair of aluminum-domed Odyssey drivers, which combine to fill your room with accurate, full-spectrum sound. It also delivers astonishingly deep bass for a system of this size, with crisp, clean highs soaring over the top. As an alternative, you can connect it to your computer to upgrade your external speakers, giving you a great sound system for games and streaming music. Never before has something so small been quite so entertaining.
The On Stage Micro incorporates Apple's universal iPod dock adapter, which is compatible with most docking versions of the iPod, including the iPod video 5G and 5.5G and the iPod nano 1G and 2G (it offers limited functionality with iPod 3G models, however). Simply slide your iPod into the dock and you're set--no additional cords to connect or adapters to fuss with. As an added convenience, the On Stage Micro also offers an auxiliary input for connecting a variety of other portable audio devices, including the iPod shuffle, personal MP3 and CD players, desktop and laptop computers (all platforms), and satellite radio receivers. As long as your portable audio device has a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack connection, you can play the audio through your On Stage Micro speaker.
As a bonus, the system comes with a full-navigation IR remote control, which delivers full access to your iPod so you can easily change tracks, browse libraries, adjust settings, and scroll through extras from across the room. Additional details include a OnePoint design that syncs and charges your iPod (requires mini USB cable); one-touch volume and mute controls; a memory function that remembers your last volume setting after the system shuts down; computer-optimized equalization to provide a rich, complete sound stage; and an automatic shutoff function that saves battery life when there's no audio input. The On Stage Micro, which offers more than 24 hours of continuous play with a single set of batteries, measures 2.88 by 0.62 by 2.25 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 1 pound. It's also backed by a one-year warranty.

Creative TravelSound without AC Adapter- Silver Review

Creative TravelSound without AC Adapter- Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased these speakers and was amazed at how bad they were. These are not cheap speakers.
The purchase was for my CD player and computer. The problem is that when you turn up the volume to any decent level, there is buzzing and alot of noise, especially on any bass tone.
There is also a switch at the top between the up and down volume buttons that's supposed to produce a "Wide Stereo Effect". It actually makes the noise worse.
While they do look nice (though they have a tendency to fall over), the sound quality make these not worth purchasing.
I've returned these speakers and am now looking for an alternative.

iHome iP29 Portable Speaker Case for iPod and iPhone (Black) Review

iHome iP29 Portable Speaker Case for iPod and iPhone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've long been looking for a truly portable (battery capable) set of speakers for my iPhone that actually have good sound. iHome delivers! For its size and cost, the sounds is among the best I've heard. No, you're not going to get thumping bass from a speaker like this - some sacrifices have to be made for the size. That said, this speaker can get quite loud with good tone and no (or very minimal) distortion at max volume. I also like that it comes with the AC adapter and an auxiliary line cord (for hooking up other equipment) included. It also charges your iPhone/iPod while docked when it's on AC power. When away from power, the 4 AA batteries last quite awhile as well - even at medium volumes (which is pretty loud for this speaker). I'm still trying to kill the original set after about 6 hours of continuous music playback.
My iPhone docks securely without an adapter while still in the case (Incase Slider)! That was a big factor for me - not having to remove the case in order to dock. There are also adapters available for various iPods.
Construction wise, it seems well built and is very compact when zippered closed. I do have two suggestions for a revision, however. The first is that the zipper is quite stiff and you need a good deal of force to zip it open/closed. Perhaps this will give more after repeated use. The final complaint concerns the straps that hold the speaker open. With my iPhone docked, it serves to keep the speaker open. Without it, the straps aren't quite long enough and the top of the case keeps wanting to close. If they'd made the straps just a few millimeters longer, it would solve this. My solution is simple - just put something (like a couple of magazines) under the front of the speaker and let gravity keep it open. Again, this is only an issue if you don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch docked. For these reasons, however, I can't give it 5-stars.
Overall, I highly recommend this portable speaker for iPhone and iPod users. It really does have excellent sound for its size and reasonable price! Being somewhat of an electronics snob, I continue to be impressed with the products iHome is releasing. It's obvious they do a lot of research to find out what people are looking for in their products and they put them together with quality.

Altec Lansing iM9 inMotion Mobile Speaker Dock for iPod (Black) Review

Altec Lansing iM9 inMotion Mobile Speaker Dock for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Excellent for travellers, but as a fellow audiophile, I have had to accept some shortcomings of the amp. The speakers are full range and the enclosure has no harmonics of its own which is rare in portables. Bass is warm and drives down low enough to make you wonder how the 2 little 2 3/4" drivers can produce warm bass guitar chords with aplomb. The tweeters are efficient and high sensitivity. Infact, they are accurate with music but also reveal both a benefit and a flaw of the design:
If you want to fall asleep to it next to your bed, the background hiss thats present at all volumes consitently(it doesnt get louder as you turn it up)this hiss could annoy you. I can sleep to it, but end up facing the tweeters away from me to attenuate the hiss. I only notice it between songs and when I am in very quiet settings. If you can tolerate placing it away about 6-10 feet and don't mind hearing the hiss during very quiet sections, its a great unit. I never notice the hiss outside or at engagements or with others. If you want something thats built tougher than other items I have owned both by Altec and other vendors, I will add that the battery capability is why you need to deal with the shortcomings of a Class D amp, whereas IC based solid state units are cleaner on the sound, but will never let you crank tunes for 8 hours on the beach at good volume so you can actually hear the sound will wading/swimming close to shore. The conveniences, and ALTEC's time to market with an evolved product explain some of the nuances I describe, but this will not be a choice I second guess, I have HiFi where I need it, at home, in my car and via my $500 headphones, but at the beach, in a hotel pool, or after nice day on the boardwalk, its a great way to share music for hours with good sound, great design and outstanding build quality. I chose it over their iM3, iM5 and the iM7 wont do, its too big! The iM11 has good sound and less hiss but not for the on the go, outdoors types. This item appears to have been well thought out and will be an addition to anyone who wants to utilized their ipod on the go in addition to an active lifestyle in environemnts less than optimal for the desk monger speakers so ubiquitous in the iPod speaker arena.

Our speakers arrived today, and they amaze us. Great sound, well-constructed, fold up compactly for easy travel.
Since the frequency response is 150-18KHz they do put out nice sound...not the "tinny" version I had feared. These are nice little speakers! (After all, they ARE amplified)
The included USB power cable allows you to power them from a computer, and also from an "IPod" charger/adapter. Actually, we've just ordered a different brand "IPod" power adapter from Amazon for $2.99 (iPod USB Travel Power Charger Adapter, by Handhelditems). Why waste $30.00 for an Apple version?
If you want nice sound from small speakers, these little beauties won't disappoint you. You'll be pleasantly surprised!

iHome iP37 Portable Stereo Speaker Case for iPod and iPhone (Black) Review

iHome iP37 Portable Stereo Speaker Case for iPod and iPhone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Buying the iHome iP37 was a lesson of how important it is to try out sound equipment before you make a choice. The salesperson at the store I bought the iP37 was kind enough to let me try out various portable sound systems with my iPod. He even broke out a new set of batteries for me to have (free). After trying out offerings from Panasonic, Memorex, and Sony, I came across this little cloth-cased thing that was surprisingly heavy. That heaviness was due to the magnets in the speakers which are what drive the sound in the systems.
I was blown away by the sound in this tiny little system. I was wanting something that I could use by my beside at night, but in the bargain got a speaker set that can easily fill a good sized room. All this in a package that can easily fit beside my laptop in its case. A big plus is that this battery operated system also has an AC adapter and charges my iPod when plugged in. I also like how simple the design is: an on/off switch and plus and minus buttons for the volume. That's it. It takes AA batteries which is nice, since most of my other portable stuff takes the same.
That said, the iP37 works best with classical and jazz music, where booming bass is not required. Even though the iP37 has SRS bass boost, you aren't going to get room-rocking bass from these little speakers. However, classical music is another story. When I can hear the guitarist's fingering noises on a classical piece, I know the speakers are pretty clear. With this little system, I can put on some classical music in the bedroom and still hear it clearly in the kitchen. Pretty darn good.

Take the iP37 with you anywhere and let the music play. This ultra-portable iPod dock features high-quality stereo speakers and a class D amp for big sound in a compact package. Operates on 4 AA batteries or on the included 100-240VAC adapter. Perfect for travel or any informal setting.

Charge and Play Your iPod The iP37 features a universal iPod dock, for charging and playing your iPhone or iPod. Enjoy your music while keeping your iPhone or iPod fully charged, so it's ready to go when you are.

Note that the iP37 will only charge docked devices when plugged into a wall outlet using the included power supply.

SRS TruBass iHome utilizes DSP (digital sound processing) technology to give your music extra bass and clarity. SRS TruBass uses harmonics to make the bass from small speakers deeper and richer, so you get a more dynamic bass sound.

Powering Options The iP37 operates on either 4 AA batteries or the included switching power supply. Play music anywhere in battery mode, or play and charge your iPhone/Pod using the AC adapter.

Ultra-Portable In addition to its battery power ability, the iP37 is built right into a protective zippered case made of splash-proof material, with a heavy-duty zipper. Take it anywhere--camping, to the beach, to a picnic, etc.

Auxiliary Input Listen to external audio sources like computers, CD players, or MP3 players using the auxiliary input.

JBL On Stage Micro II Speaker System for iPod / iPhone (Black) Review

JBL On Stage Micro II Speaker System for iPod / iPhone (Black)
Average Reviews:

I researched the choice of iPod docks/speakers for a couple of months before deciding on JBL for affordable quality together with innovative design. It then took me another month or so to narrow down which model fit my requirements. The specs on this particular On Stage were almost exactly what I wanted. I sacrificed the extra speakers in order to have the dual battery/adapter power options but the flexibility was worth it. The sound is great for what I need and I love that it takes up so little room wherever I take it. The RC was just an added bonus.

Share your music library with friends anywhere your travels take you, indoors or out. On Stage Micro II measures just 6 inches (150mm) in diameter, and weighs in at only 0.67 pound (0.3kg). But with two JBL Odyssey full-range transducers, it has the muscle to outperform many much larger systems. Four AAA batteries deliver hours of continuous use, and with a USB cable, you can even sync and charge your iPod or iPhone with iTunes.

Portable Loudspeaker Dock for iPod and iPhone
Why JBL? Been to a movie or a concert recently? There's a good chance that you were enjoying the show on JBL loudspeakers. If you've watched TV or listened to CDs, what you listened to was more than likely recorded on JBL equipment. For more than 60 years, JBL has been the loudspeaker brand of choice for recording professionals around the world. Now you can enjoy that same renowned JBL sound quality from your iPod or iPhone.

OnePoint Design The OnePoint iPod connectors provide the connection to your computer. Connect the USB cable to the rear of the unit; then, every time you dock your iPod, you will have a connection for synchronizing and charging.

Evercharge Topology When your iPod or iPhone is docked, it will receive a charge, even when not connected to the computer or if the system is off. The On Stage II provides the power to make sure your device is ready to go when you are.

Easy-to-Use Music and Navigation Controls Just a touch of the music controls on the On Stage II increases or decreases the volume. Using the navigation controls on the remote control, you can browse iPod songs, photos, and playlists; change tracks and settings; and much more. With the remote, you have complete control of your iPod, as if it were in your hand.

RF Remote Technology The JBL On Stage Micro II IR remote has several modes of operation. The Music mode allows you to control the volume, change tracks, fast forward, and fast reverse. The iPod Navigation mode allows you to navigate the iPod or iPhone menus just as if you were touching the device itself. You can navigate your music, watch your slideshows, and find and play your videos.

Small Package, Serious Sound With its four Odyssey transducers, the On Stage II delivers 12 watts of total power. Proprietary technologies help provide the highest audio quality, for great bass and clear, accurate sound from any direction.

Odyssey transducers--The Odyssey drivers provide accurate high frequencies while capable of low-frequency extension of four octaves, unlike traditional powered tweeters. This design provides a full, rich frequency response from low bass to the highest highs.
Slipstream port design--The JBL On Stage Micro port minimizes boundary layer separation, providing high-output bass with low distortion.
COE (Computer-Optimized Equalization)--The JBL On Stage Micro system equalization is computer-optimized to provide a rich, complete soundstage over a range of listening positions.

Rocketfish Wireless Rear Speaker Kit RF-WHTIB - Wireless audio delivery system for rear speakers Review

Rocketfish Wireless Rear Speaker Kit RF-WHTIB - Wireless audio delivery system for rear speakers

Just hooked this up a week ago for our RCA 5.1 Home Theater 5-DVD Entertainment System in a 500 square foot living room and it works fine! In fact it works better than I expected!
The hook up was really simple. I'm not sure what qualifies as "cheap wiring" in light of what the other reviewer says, but the kit came with sufficient wiring and the wiring connectors in the kit are universal so you can add your own expensive wiring (like we did) or simply use the ones on your existing home theater system.
Although the hook up was simple, it took us a few minutes after the kit was hooked up to realize that the rear surround speakers
ONLY work when the source on your home theater system is playing surround sound music or movies. When one of the FM stations was on and playing we didn't get any sound from the rear speaker (only a slight hiss-but nothing distracting).
However, when we put the X-Men 3 DVD in and pressed play the living room came alive with rich Surround Sound.
This is how we came to understand not all sources will give you Surround Sound on the Rocketfish wireless kit. It has nothing to do with the performance of the RocketFish kit which would be the thing you would obviously blame first.
Also Note: Like most home theater systems our RCA home theater system has a changeable preset for "Stereo" , "Subwoofer" and "Surround" along with the Equalizer settings. "Stereo" was our defaulted setting so we had to change it to Surround Mode to get the full effect of the kit. Because of this the Rear Surround speakers when hooked up thru the Rocketfish Kit ONLY works well when our RCA system is set specifically in Surround Mode and the Stereo Mode is turned off. This would explain why many reviewers give this bad reviews on the basis that the units are non functioning when they first hook it up.
This is not in the Rocketfish manual but for the kit to work correctly you need to have
1) A source that gives surround sound (DVD, FM station, TV show, CD, etc...) on home theater system
2) You need to switch your home theater system settings from Stereo to Surround mode or completely turn off Stereo Mode.
3) You also need to have a 5.1 home theater system that is capable of 5.1 Surround Sound Mode.
When all these conditions are met, the Rocketfish Wireless kit works well. And if your source is not playing surround sound you can easily turn off the surround speakers at the rear by turning off the Rocketfish kit or switching your Home Theater System's settings back to Stereo. Easy!
We did NOT have any interference between the RocketrFish kit and our in-home Internet 802.11 a/b.g WiFi set up. Which is sometimes a main problem of these Surround Wireless kits. Pros:
Easy Set Up, Rich Sound, Looks Cool, Low Profile, No WIRES across living room floor! Works best for 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound Movies and Music DVDs and TV Shows.
Cons:
Manuals should give more information concerning compatibility of 5.1 Surround Sound. FM and CD Source Music playback on the Surround Sound is not as rich as Movie/Music DVDs and TV Shows. But I guess that is what Stereo Mode is for. Stereo Mode = CD and FM playback and Surround Mode = Movie/Music DVDs and TV shows. Simple.
The Bottom Line:
If you like to get the Movie Theater effect of Movies and Music DVDs in your living room, minus the wires then this kit is for you!
