(More customer reviews)Unlike other batteries, the NP45A can be inserted backwards. The charger comes with 3 contacts that one would think match the pattern of the contacts of the battery, which they do. Unfortunately, the battery will be in backwards if you match the contacts and will be discharged by the charger because in the position where the charger contacts match the battery contacts, the polarities are incorrect. You have to match the polarity symbols, not the contact pattern. Being the paranoid engineer I am, I am a little concerned that the center contact has a purpose and that if the battery is in the proper way to charge it, the center contacts do not mate. Is this a problem? The batteries appear to charge, so maybe not. It would have been nice if the instructions had been more complete in pointing out this situation. The charger is inexpensive and very convenient having both auto and AC methods of charging.
