(More customer reviews)The Kensington Universal power adapter is small making it very portable. In its carrying case, it fits easily into my laptop bag. Even with its small size, it is still able to power my 17" gateway laptop. These are the two reasons I bought this, and it serves both very well.
Two things to consider are 1) it does not come with any SmartTips, the power adapters for computers, and 2) it gets hot. When ordering this item, make sure you also order the SmartIip for your laptop. The SmartTip sizes can be confusing, like there are two sizes that fit the gateway computers. The Kensington website list the SmartTips but does not have many of the newer laptop models listed. You may have to take a leap of faith that your newer laptop model uses the same SmartTip as the older model does.
The AC cord is very short, on purpose. The power adapter hangs from the wall to help in venting the heat. My adapter does not get too hot to touch, but I have seen reports that it can. I have not used it on a plane yet, and as the DC cable is much longer than the AC cable, I will have to see how much heat it generates as it is laying on the seat tray or my lap.
