Got this to use for still photography as an alternative to flash lighting and it works. I like the dimmer control & had no flickering when turned down to the lowest setting. Light seems most useful at roughly half to full power; lower than half power good only for close work. Also like the filters; the design looks like it'd be pretty easy to make my own for different effects. I'd estimate the lighting field of coverage, indoors across an average size room, equivalent to about a 60mm-75mm lens on a 35mm camera.
I'm very disappointed with the cheapo Bescor quality: The shoe mount on the light, and the swivel mount, look and feel like they'd break with the slightest mishandling. Re: the light alone: The battery compartment is poorly marked for the polarity (I painted polarity indicators on the back of the unit); internally, the battery compartment isn't closed-off from the circuit board; the overall quality of the plastics and assembly finish is cheesy (e.g., some of the edges/seams where the front & rear body halves meet look like they were trimmed with a pocket knife). I didn't expect it to be made as well as a higher priced/pro light but I didn't expect it to be so cheaply made, either.
I wouldn't buy it again; the quality isn't there. It's grossly overpriced for what it is.
